Te mapa
Waka is a town in the South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region, in the highland area known as Dawro. The land here is steep and green, cut by valleys that drain toward larger rivers below. On a map the town appears as a cluster of streets gathered on higher ground, with its main roads following the ridges rather than crossing the terrain directly.
Beyond the centre, the pattern opens out into scattered homesteads, footpaths and small farm plots on the hillsides. Road connections run toward neighbouring towns across the highlands, winding with the slopes. Like many Ethiopian highland towns, Waka's layout reflects a balance between a busy market centre and the rural landscape that surrounds and sustains it.
A Waka map poster presents that relationship in simple lines. The denser streets of the town, the ridge-following roads and the looser network of paths across the countryside all read clearly in monochrome. It is an understated portrait of a place far from well-known routes, which is exactly why it can mean so much to those who come from there.
Roads leading into Waka tend to follow the high ground, curving along ridges between valleys and giving the map a flowing, organic structure.
The built-up centre forms a compact cluster of streets and blocks, the densest part of the map and the focus of local markets and services.
Around the town, small farm plots and footpaths spread across the slopes, forming a fine, scattered texture typical of the Ethiopian highlands.
