Te mapa
Walkden is a town in the City of Salford, in the western part of Greater Manchester. On a map it grew in a linear way. Its centre lies along a main road running east toward Manchester, and rows of terraced streets and later housing estates spread out from it into the neighbouring areas of Worsley, Little Hulton and Boothstown.
The area's history is closely tied to coal mining, and some former colliery sites and railway lines have since become parks, greenways and open land. From above, those green patches and old line routes break up what would otherwise be continuous housing. The railway station and the town centre sit close together near the middle.
A Walkden map poster shows a typical Lancashire town: dense, practical, laid out around its routes and marked by its industrial past. There is no river or coast to anchor it, so the character of the map comes from the texture of the streets and the green spaces between them.
The town centre stretches along a main road running toward Manchester. It is the clearest line on the map, and the other streets connect to it.
Rows of terraced houses make a close, fine-grained pattern. On paper it reads like a woven texture across much of the town.
Old colliery and rail land has partly become green space. Those breaks give the map room to breathe between the residential districts.

Koteā ko Walkden
Walkden is the kind of place people call home for decades, so its streets carry memories of schools, first houses and family visits. A precise map of the town suits someone who grew up there and has moved elsewhere in the north or farther afield.
