Te mapa
Werota, also written Woreta, stands on the Fogera plain in Ethiopia's Amhara region, east of Lake Tana. The land here is low and flat compared with the surrounding highlands, and in the rainy season large parts of the plain flood. On the map the town is a compact grid set into a wide open landscape.
The town grew up at an important road junction. The highway from Bahir Dar to Gondar passes through, and another road branches east toward Debre Tabor and further into the highlands. These routes cross the town in long straight lines, and most of the commercial streets gather along them.
The Fogera plain is known for rice farming and for the Fogera cattle breed raised on its seasonal pastures. A Werota map poster shows a town defined by its roads and its setting: a crossroads grid, then flat country running west toward the lake.
The Bahir Dar–Gondar highway and the road east toward Debre Tabor meet at Werota, forming the main axes that the rest of the town grew along.
Flat, seasonally flooded land surrounds the town. It is used for rice and grazing, and on the poster it appears as broad open space around the streets.
The shore of Ethiopia's largest lake lies to the west across the plain, and Werota's layout reflects that low, open lakeside country.

Koteā ko Werota
For people from Werota and the Fogera area, a map of the town marks a family origin in clear lines. It also makes a thoughtful gift for friends who travelled the road between Bahir Dar and Gondar.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for instance with a family name and a year. Choose one of five styles. Paper and Sand bring out the plain, and Noir gives it weight. Get the HD files for $9 or a printed poster.
