Te mapa
Wierden lies in the Twente region of Overijssel, between Almelo and Nijverdal, and its municipality also includes the village of Enter. The village is a railway junction, where lines from Zwolle and Deventer meet on their way to Almelo. The tracks cut through town in straight lines, and residential streets extend from a compact centre in several directions around them.
Beyond the built area lie the landscapes Twente is known for: farmland divided by hedgerows and tree lines, small woods and scattered farms. Nearby lies the Wierdense Veld, one of the few remaining high peat bogs in the region. It appears on the map as a large, mostly unbuilt area crossed by a few paths.
A Wierden map poster shows a Dutch village at a comfortable scale, where streets, railway lines and countryside all have room to be seen. The meeting of rail routes gives the composition a distinctive structure, and the surrounding fields and heathland keep the edges calm and open.
Lines from Zwolle and Deventer meet at Wierden and continue toward Almelo, forming sharp straight strokes that divide the village's neighbourhoods.
This protected peat bog and heath forms a large open space near the village, crossed only by a few paths and tracks.
Fields framed by tree lines and small woods surround the village, giving the edges of the map a soft, patchwork quality.
