Wilmington is Delaware's largest city, set where the Christina River and Brandywine Creek approach the Delaware River. The downtown grid stands on the ground between the two waterways, with Rodney Square near its centre. The Christina curves along the southern edge past the redeveloped Riverfront. Interstate 95 cuts through the city in a long trench and viaduct, a strong line on any map.
The city traces its origins to 1638, when Swedish settlers built Fort Christina, the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley. Later the Brandywine powered mills in the area, including the gunpowder works that became the DuPont company. Today Wilmington is better known for corporate law and banking, since many companies are incorporated in Delaware, and for its parkland along the Brandywine.
A Wilmington map poster brings together the orderly downtown blocks, the winding Brandywine and its parks to the north, the broad bends of the Christina and the rail corridor along the waterfront. It makes a fine gift for residents, for people who built careers here, and for anyone with ties to the First State's industrial and legal history.

North of downtown, Brandywine Creek winds through a green valley of parkland. Its winding line softens the edge of the grid and contrasts with the rectangular blocks.
The central business district follows a regular grid of streets around Rodney Square. It is the densest part of the map, bordered to the west by the corridor of I-95.
