Witney Map Poster & Print
Witney is a market town in west Oxfordshire, at the edge of the Cotswolds, and for centuries it was known across England for blanket making. Wool from the surrounding hills and water from the River Windrush supported the mills. Witney blankets were sold far beyond the county, and several mill buildings still stand.
The town's plan is easy to follow on a map. A long main street runs from Church Green, with St Mary's Church and its tall spire at one end, to the Market Place and the Buttercross, a seventeenth-century covered market structure. The Windrush flows along the town's eastern side, its meadows and channels leaving a soft open strip.
