Te mapa
Wusu stands at the northern foot of the Tian Shan in Xinjiang, where rivers from the mountains fan out across a wide gravel plain before reaching the Junggar Basin. The city is laid out on a broad, mostly rectangular grid. Its long avenues and large blocks reflect planning on open, level ground with few natural obstacles.
It sits on the main corridor running west from Urumqi toward the Ili valley and the border with Kazakhstan, a route that has carried traffic between China and Central Asia for centuries. The neighbouring city of Kuytun lies close by, and together they form one of the larger urban areas along this stretch of the northern foothills.
A Wusu map poster shows a city shaped by its setting. It has a clean street grid, thin lines of irrigation channels and farm roads crossing the fields, and braided river beds running north from the mountains. The result is quiet and orderly, well suited to a minimal black and white print.
Wide avenues meet at right angles across the city, forming large, even blocks that give the map a strong, almost diagrammatic regularity.
Rivers from the Tian Shan spread into broad beds with many channels across the plain, drawing loose, textured bands between the fields around the city.
Highways and a railway run east to west past the city on the route toward the Ili valley. These long straight lines cross the entire frame.

Koteā ko Wusu
Many people leave Wusu to work or study in larger cities, and a map is an understated way to keep home in view. Its grid and river lines also appeal to anyone who enjoys the graphic side of cartography, whether or not they have been there.
