Te mapa
The heart of Xiamen is an island, and on a map its rounded outline is the first thing you notice. Xiamen Island is ringed by a coastal road, with dense districts in the west and south and more open land toward the airport in the north-east. Bridges, tunnels and causeways tie it to the mainland districts that now surround the bay.
Just off the south-western shore sits Gulangyu, a small island with no cars, where narrow lanes wind among villas built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. Across a narrow channel, the old harbour district of the main island faces it with its own tight street pattern.
Xiamen became one of China's first Special Economic Zones in 1980, and the city has since expanded well beyond the island. Xiamen University sits beside the southern coast next to the Nanputuo Temple. A Xiamen map poster captures the clear logic of an island city, where the coastline shapes everything within it.
The small car-free island has a web of curving lanes and no major roads, giving it a delicate texture quite different from the main island opposite.
A coastal road encircles much of Xiamen Island, and its smooth outline frames the dense streets inside like the edge of a drawing.
A former inlet at the centre of the island, now an enclosed lake, forms a clear open shape surrounded by some of the city's densest districts.

Koteā ko Xiamen
Xiamen is a place of study, holidays and new beginnings for many, and its island shape makes it one of the most recognisable city maps in China. A print of the coastline, the bridges and Gulangyu has a natural balance that suits a calm interior.
Add your own title and subtitle, a date or coordinates, and pick from five styles. Blueprint works particularly well for a harbour city, while Paper gives a softer finish. Download HD files in six sizes or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
