Xiaodu Map Poster & Print
Xiaodu is a town in the western part of Chongqing Municipality, in the rolling hill country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. The land here is a constant rise and fall of low ridges and shallow valleys. It is farmed intensively, and settlements take whatever flat ground they can. From above, the town has an irregular, organic shape, very different from a planned city grid.
The built-up area gathers along its main roads, with smaller lanes filling the space between. Around it, the map shows a dense pattern of fields, ponds and terraces following the slopes. Streams run through the valleys and join larger rivers further off. The whole landscape is patterned by generations of farming.
