Te mapa
Xiayang is a subdistrict of Qingpu, on the western side of Shanghai, where the city's growth reaches into the lake-and-canal country of the Yangtze Delta. On the map, broad new roads and large residential blocks sit alongside narrow creeks and older canals. The water network is dense enough to break the street grid into separate parcels, and the whole area has a distinctly watery texture.
Qingpu has long been known for its water towns and for Dianshan Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Shanghai, which lies further west. Xiayang forms part of the district's expanding new town. Here new housing, schools and parks have been laid out in recent decades around the existing waterways, and a metro line now links the district to central Shanghai.
A Xiayang map poster shows a newer side of Shanghai: generous blocks, landscaped parks and wide avenues, all threaded by the old canals of the delta. In black and white, the combination of straight urban lines and winding water makes a composition that feels both modern and rooted in place.
Creeks and canals run through and around the subdistrict, dividing it into distinct parcels. On the map they form a fine, irregular web against the straighter lines of new roads.
Large residential and civic blocks, laid out along wide avenues, make up much of the built area. Their generous scale is clearly different from Shanghai's older, tighter neighbourhoods.
Landscaped green spaces follow many of the waterways, blending parkland with canals. They add open areas to the poster and soften its grid.
