Te mapa
Yawa lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, where meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains supports a chain of oases along the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. On a map, a town like this is defined by water. There is a settled, cultivated zone of fields, canals and lanes, and beyond it an abrupt change to empty sand and gravel.
Inside the oasis, the pattern is regular and agricultural. Long straight roads and irrigation channels divide the land into rectangular fields, and they are often lined with rows of poplars. Houses cluster along the roads and around a modest centre. The geometry is practical, and it is shaped by the need to spread scarce water as evenly as possible.
A Yawa map poster shows the rare contrast between intensively farmed land and true desert. The oasis gives the design a densely patterned core, and the surrounding blankness makes that core feel even more deliberate. It is a spare, striking image of how people have lived at the edge of the Taklamakan.
Roads and canals divide the cultivated land into long rectangles. This gives the heart of the map a regular, almost woven pattern that comes from irrigation farming.
Where the water runs out, the lines stop. The sharp border between farmland and open desert is the most dramatic feature of the composition.
Straight lanes, commonly bordered by poplars in Hotan's oases, cross the fields and connect farms to the town. They form the fine parallel lines in the poster.

Koteā ko Yawa
The map appeals to people from the Hotan region and to travellers along the southern Silk Road. It also suits anyone who likes the graphic contrast of a settlement set against emptiness. It looks particularly good in the Sand and Paper styles.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, and five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Every digital purchase includes 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files in six sizes.
