Te mapa
Yozgat lies in the heart of Central Anatolia, on high ground surrounded by hills. The city fills a basin, with its compact centre at the lowest point and newer neighbourhoods climbing the slopes around it. From above, the streets appear dense and irregular in the middle and become more spread out and orderly as they rise towards the edges.
Unlike many Anatolian cities, Yozgat is fairly young. It grew in the eighteenth century as the seat of the Çapanoğlu family, powerful local rulers under the Ottomans, whose mosque still stands in the centre. A Yozgat map poster shows that origin in the tight, organic street network of the old core, which formed around the family's buildings and markets.
Just south of the city is the Yozgat Çamlığı, a pine forest that became Turkey's first national park in 1958. On the map it appears as a large, calm area with only a few winding roads. It is a green counterweight to the dense city next to it and one of the most recognisable parts of the composition.

The old core around the historic mosque has dense, irregular streets. That tight pattern reflects the city's eighteenth-century origins.
Newer districts rise up the hills around the basin in more regular rows. They give the city a bowl-like shape that is easy to read.

For people from Yozgat, living in Ankara, Istanbul or abroad, the map brings together the old centre and the pine forest that every local knows. It is a quiet reminder of the highland city and its seasons.
