Te mapa
Zhawa lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, where meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains reaches the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. From above, the town belongs to a larger oasis. It is a green patchwork of irrigated fields, canals and tree-lined roads, and it ends abruptly where the sand begins. The settlement itself is modest and fits into that farmed landscape.
Life in oases like this depends on water brought down from the mountains by rivers and a network of irrigation channels. On the map, that system appears as long, straight roads and field boundaries in a repeating pattern. It feels less like a city grid and more like a carefully divided agricultural plain.
A Zhawa map poster shows how settlement works at the edge of one of the world's great deserts. The street network is sparse and practical. The strongest graphic effect comes from the contrast between cultivated ground and empty land, which reads well in any of the five styles.
Irrigated plots and straight rural roads divide the land into a regular pattern. It gives the map a quiet, even texture from edge to edge.
Past the fields, the map empties out toward the Taklamakan. The line where the detail stops is the most striking feature on the page.
Channels and tree-lined roads follow the flow of mountain water across the oasis. They form long parallel strokes across the composition.
