Te mapa
Zhob lies in north-eastern Balochistan, in a valley surrounded by dry hills, not far from the border with Afghanistan. On a map, the town is a compact grid of streets on the valley floor. The Zhob river runs nearby, and its wide, braided bed is one of the most distinctive features in an otherwise open, arid landscape.
Until 1976 the town was called Fort Sandeman, after Robert Sandeman, the British administrator who established a post here in the late nineteenth century. The older, more regular part of the layout reflects that period of frontier administration. Newer neighbourhoods and markets have since spread out along the main roads leading out of town.
Roads lead from Zhob across the hills toward other towns in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making it an important crossroads in the region. A Zhob map poster shows the town in its setting: a small, dense grid, a wide riverbed and the long lines of roads crossing empty country. It is spare and strongly shaped.
The river runs through the valley in a broad, braided bed. On the map, its wide, shifting channels are a striking contrast to the neat grid of the town.
The older part of the town has a regular street pattern that dates back to its days as Fort Sandeman. It forms the clear, ordered centre of the map.
Roads leave the valley and wind through the hills toward other parts of Pakistan. They are long, thin lines that emphasise how remote the town is.

Koteā ko Zhob
For people from Zhob and northern Balochistan, and for families with roots in the region, this map shows home in its landscape. The riverbed and hills give the poster a strong, rugged character.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to add a family name, a date or even the town's former name. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
