Ndélé Map Poster & Print
Ndélé is the capital of Bamingui-Bangoran prefecture, in the sparsely populated north of the Central African Republic. It sits in a region of wooded savanna, rocky hills and seasonal rivers, far from the country's other main towns. On the map it is a modest cluster of streets, with a few long roads leading away through largely unbuilt country.
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Ndélé was the capital of Dar al-Kuti, a sultanate ruled by Muhammad al-Senoussi, and an important point on trade routes across the region. Today it is also the nearest town to Bamingui-Bangoran National Park and a gateway to the protected areas of the north.
