The map
A Coruña occupies a peninsula on the Atlantic coast of Galicia, and its map is shaped entirely by the sea. The old town and the harbour face a sheltered bay to the south-east, while the Orzán and Riazor beaches curve along the open ocean to the north-west. A narrow isthmus links the two sides, where the densest part of the modern city grows.
A long seafront promenade follows almost the whole coastline, one of the longest in Europe, drawing a continuous line around the peninsula. At the northern tip stands the Tower of Hercules, a Roman lighthouse still in use and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city is known for the glazed galleries of the Avenida da Marina, whose white-framed windows give it the name City of Glass. A A Coruña map poster, or better simply a A Coruña map poster, shows a place defined by water on nearly every side.
The Roman lighthouse stands at the northern tip of the peninsula, surrounded by open parkland that forms a quiet, spacious end to the city's dense streets.
The city narrows between the harbour and the ocean beaches, so the coastline appears on both sides of the poster, framing the grid in a distinctive way.
A continuous walkway follows the coast around the peninsula, a smooth line that ties together port, beaches and headland in one unbroken curve.

Why A Coruña
A Coruña is a city of walks by the sea, of wind and light, and of close neighbourhoods. People who moved away often want its outline nearby, and the peninsula shape makes it one of the most recognisable maps on the Atlantic coast.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates line of your choice, then pick Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the maritime setting. The HD download is $9, or order a printed poster with an optional frame.
