Soma is a town in the Lower River Region of the Gambia, and it owes its importance to its position. It sits at the junction of the South Bank Road, which runs east–west through the country, and the Trans-Gambia Highway, which crosses from northern to southern Senegal. North of Soma the highway approaches the River Gambia, which is now crossed by the Senegambia Bridge to Farafenni.
