The map
Bang Ban is a district in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, in the flat, water-rich lowlands of central Thailand. Here the map is shaped by rivers and canals as much as by roads. Settlements line the banks of the waterways, and long, narrow plots stretch back from the water into rice fields. The landscape reads as a fine mesh of channels and field boundaries.
The central plain around Ayutthaya has been farmed and settled along its waterways for centuries, and seasonal flooding is part of life here. Houses and temples traditionally faced the water, and many villages still follow that pattern. Roads now cross the district, but the older logic of canal-side settlement remains visible from above.
A Bang Ban map poster presents a delicate, horizontal composition. Rivers curve through it, canals cut straight lines between them, and small clusters of buildings follow the water. In black and white, the effect is almost like an engraving, a clear portrait of the agricultural heart of central Thailand.

Houses and temples line the banks of the waterways, creating thin ribbons of settlement that follow the water rather than a street grid.
Between the channels, field boundaries and irrigation lines form a fine, regular pattern across the flat land of the central plain.
