The map

About this Barkā Kānā map poster

Barkā Kānā is a town in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, best known as a railway junction. Several lines meet here, and on a map the station area, sidings and yards form the most striking pattern: long parallel tracks that branch and rejoin across the centre of the settlement.

The town lies in the Damodar valley coal belt, where mining and railways shaped much of the landscape. Housing and roads grew around the junction and the railway colonies, with irregular neighbourhoods filling the space between tracks and the surrounding hills and fields.

A Barkā Kānā map poster makes the railway the main character. The tracks create bold, sweeping lines, while the streets form a looser web around them. For anyone who knows the station, or has changed trains here on the way through Jharkhand, the print is instantly recognisable.
