The map

About this Beni Amrane map poster

Beni Amrane is in Boumerdès Province in northern Algeria, inland from the Mediterranean coast. Here the land rises toward the hills of Kabylie. The Isser river crosses the area on its way to the sea. The main route from Algiers toward Tizi Ouzou also follows this valley, so the town sits on an old line of travel.

From above, Beni Amrane does not form a neat grid. Its streets bend around the contours of the hillside and drop in steps toward the valley floor. The flatter land nearby is divided into fields and orchards. The river, the road and the railway make long lines that the town's shorter streets connect to.

A Beni Amrane map poster shows how terrain shapes a place. The street plan is irregular and closely tied to the slope, while the valley below is broad and open. Printed in monochrome, the change from dense hillside streets to the river's smooth curve gives the poster a natural balance.

01

Isser valley

The Isser river runs through the landscape nearby. Its winding course and the flat ground beside it make a soft, curving counterpoint to the angular streets of the town.

02

Hillside streets

The streets follow the contours instead of a grid. They bend and branch as the land climbs, which gives the plan an organic, layered look.

03

Road and rail line

The main road and railway toward Kabylie pass through the valley. They add long, steady lines that tie the town to the region.
