The map

About this Bereket map poster

Bereket, known in earlier decades as Gazanjyk, lies in the Balkan region of western Turkmenistan. It grew up along the Trans-Caspian Railway, which crosses the country from the Caspian coast, and on a map the tracks form its backbone. The town spreads over level desert ground, so its streets follow a regular pattern with little in the landscape to interrupt them.

Its role as a junction grew when the north-south railway linking Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran opened with Bereket as one of its key points. From above, these lines show up as long, straight strokes crossing at the town. Beyond the built-up area the land opens into arid plain, with the Kopetdag range rising in the distance to the south.

A Bereket map poster reduces the place to its essentials: rails, streets and space. The result is a spare, almost architectural image that suits modern interiors and people who like clear structure. It is also a fitting print for anyone with a personal link to the town or to the railways of Central Asia.

01

Trans-Caspian line

The historic railway across Turkmenistan runs straight through Bereket. This long, unbroken line divides the town and gives the composition its main axis.

02

North-south junction

The newer line toward Kazakhstan and Iran meets the older route here, so the map shows tracks heading off from the town in several directions.

03

Desert grid

On flat, dry ground the streets run in a regular pattern with clean edges, and the town ends abruptly at the open plain around it.
