The map
Beshariq lies in the western part of the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, in the flat, intensively irrigated lowland of the Fergana Valley, not far from the border with Tajikistan. From above, the town centre is a modest grid of streets, and around it the map fills with a dense pattern of canals, field boundaries and small settlements that seem to merge together.
The name combines the Uzbek words for five and irrigation ditch, a fitting description of a landscape that depends on water brought in by canals. Agriculture, including cotton and orchards, shapes the land across this part of the valley floor, and the town serves the surrounding district as a local centre for markets and services.
A Beshariq map poster shows how closely town and countryside are woven together in the Fergana Valley. There is no sharp edge between them, only a gradual shift from streets to canals and field paths, which gives the print a detailed, even texture from corner to corner and a quiet, rural character.
Irrigation canals and ditches cross the landscape in every direction, their straight and gently curving lines forming the dominant pattern of the map.
A small grid of streets marks the centre, where the main roads of the district meet and the building pattern becomes noticeably denser.
Villages and farmsteads spread along roads and canals around the town, creating a continuous settled landscape on the valley floor rather than isolated clusters.
