The map
Beshkent is a town in Qashqadaryo Region, in southern Uzbekistan, not far from Karshi. The surrounding land is part of the Karshi steppe, a flat plain turned into farmland through large irrigation systems. On a map this appears as a pattern of straight canals, field boundaries and roads laid out at right angles.
The town reflects the same geometry. Its streets are mostly straight and regular, with a denser centre and residential areas of houses and courtyards around it. Canals and irrigation channels pass close to the built-up area, and the roads toward Karshi and nearby districts extend in long lines.
A Beshkent map poster shows how people shaped a dry landscape. The canal network and field lines take up much of the frame and look almost like a drawn diagram, and the town forms a denser block within it. Sand suits the steppe setting, and Blueprint emphasises the water that makes the plain productive.

Around Beshkent, rectangular fields separated by irrigation ditches and farm roads create a very even, geometric background.
The town itself follows a mostly regular street plan, with residential blocks of houses and courtyards spread across the flat ground.
