Horsforth sits on the northwest edge of Leeds, above the valley of the River Aire. It is often described as one of the largest villages in England, and although it has long since joined the wider city, its map still suggests a village that kept growing instead of a planned suburb. Streets wind and branch, following old lanes and the rise of the land.
The south of the area drops toward the Aire and its wooded banks, while the ground rises northward toward Leeds Bradford Airport, whose runway is visible just past the edge of town. Horsforth railway station links it to Leeds and Harrogate, and Leeds Trinity University sits on its northern side, with its own campus layout.
Between these edges is a mix of stone terraces, interwar semis and later cul-de-sacs, each era with its own street pattern. A Horsforth map poster shows how these layers fit together, from the old village lanes to the valley below and the open land toward the airport.

Older routes wind through the centre instead of running straight, which gives the street pattern the loose, organic feel of a village that grew gradually.
