The map

About this Bostonia map poster

Bostonia is an unincorporated community in San Diego County, on the northeastern side of the El Cajon valley. The map shows residential streets laid out on the level valley floor, with a few main roads carrying traffic toward El Cajon and neighbouring communities, and a mix of straight blocks and curving later subdivisions.

To the north and east, the land begins to rise into the dry, rocky hills that ring the valley, and the street pattern changes accordingly, with roads bending to follow slopes and cul-de-sacs ending against the higher ground. Open, undeveloped hillsides frame the built-up area on the map.

A Bostonia map poster captures this meeting of valley and hills. The regular blocks on the flat land and the more irregular streets on the slopes combine into a composition that says a lot about southern California's inland suburbs, with the surrounding blank space hinting at the terrain.

Valley streets

On the flat floor of the El Cajon valley, residential streets form straight blocks and long avenues, creating the orderly core of the community.

02

Hillside curves

Toward the edges, roads begin to wind and end in cul-de-sacs as they meet the slopes, giving the map a softer, more organic outline.

03

Open hills

Undeveloped rocky hillsides surround parts of Bostonia, leaving broad empty areas on the map that frame the neighbourhoods and suggest the dry terrain.
