The map

About this Brignoles map poster

Brignoles lies in the Var, in the interior of Provence, on a basin crossed by the small river Caramy. The old town climbs a low hill. On the map it appears as a tight cluster of narrow, curving lanes, clearly separate from the wider and straighter streets that spread across the flatter land around it.

At the top of the old quarter stands the former palace of the Counts of Provence, who used Brignoles as a summer residence. The building now houses the town museum. Brignoles was long known for its dried plums, and in the twentieth century for bauxite mining in the surrounding hills.

A Brignoles map poster traces the classic shape of a Provençal town: a dense medieval core with a river running past it, and roads fanning out toward vineyards and wooded hills. The A8 motorway passes just outside town, and its long, smooth line contrasts with the fine grain of the old streets.

01

Hilltop old quarter

The medieval centre wraps around its hill in tight, looping lanes. It is the densest and most intricate part of the map, and it is easy to pick out at any print size.

02

Palace of the Counts

The former residence of the Counts of Provence crowns the old town. Its position at the summit explains why so many of the surrounding streets curve inward toward it.

03

River Caramy

The Caramy crosses the basin below the old town. It is a modest river, but on the map it adds a gentle winding line that sets off the angular street pattern.

Why Brignoles

A map that means something

Brignoles is often the Provence of daily life rather than postcards: market mornings, a house on the edge of the vineyards, a drive toward the coast. A map of the town is a restrained way to remember that, and it sits comfortably in both rustic and modern rooms.

The title and subtitle can be personalised, for example with a family name or a year, and the coordinates line adjusted. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Printed posters use matte paper and can be ordered with a wooden frame.
