The map

About this Butel map poster

Butel is one of the municipalities that together form the city of Skopje, occupying ground on the north side of the capital. From above it reads as a transition zone. Denser residential streets closer to the city centre give way to looser clusters of houses, industrial sites and farmland as the land begins to rise toward the hills that close the Skopje valley to the north.

The Vardar River runs through Skopje to the south, and much of the city's older fabric sits between the river and Butel. That arrangement makes Butel a useful frame for seeing how the capital has grown outward, with main roads running north out of the centre and connecting routes tying together neighbourhoods built in different periods.

A Butel map poster works best at a scale that takes in part of central Skopje, so the contrast between compact urban blocks and the more open northern districts stays visible. The result is a map about edges and growth rather than monuments: a quiet portrait of a place that people live in, work in and pass through every day.

01

Northern slopes

Toward the north the street pattern loosens and the terrain begins to climb, so the map shows the city giving way gradually to fields and higher ground.

02

Arterial roads

Several main roads run north from central Skopje through Butel, forming strong lines that organise the surrounding neighbourhoods and industrial areas on the map.

03

Mixed districts

Apartment blocks, detached houses and larger industrial plots sit side by side here, giving the map a varied texture rather than a single uniform grid.

Why Butel

A map that means something

Butel is the kind of place people call home rather than visit, which is exactly why a map of it means something. For residents, former residents and families from Skopje living abroad, it shows the familiar streets without any tourist framing.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a street, a name or a year, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint in particular suits the mix of road lines and industrial blocks.
