The map
Buzi lies on the western coastal plain of central Taiwan, in the Taichung area between the foothills and the Taiwan Strait. The land here is low and level, which gives the street pattern a practical, straightforward character: roads run in long straight lines, and neighbourhoods follow the outlines of former farmland rather than the curves of hills or rivers.
From above, the area mixes compact clusters of houses and shops with rectangular fields, small workshops and irrigation channels that have long been part of the plain. Main roads divide this patchwork into larger blocks. A Buzi map poster shows this orderly landscape in fine detail, with open ground left between the built-up areas.
Western Taiwan is one of the most densely settled parts of the island, and places like Buzi sit within a continuous network of towns linked by highways and local roads. Toward the coast, the land opens up further, and the nearness of the sea shows in the wider spaces and straighter lines toward the western edge of the map.
Streets follow the straight boundaries of old farm plots, forming a loose grid that reflects the flat, cultivated ground of the coastal plain.
Narrow channels run alongside fields and roads, thin straight lines that add a subtle rhythm to the map and hint at the area's agricultural roots.
Between clusters of buildings, fields leave wide blank spaces on the poster, giving the composition room and emphasising the shape of each settlement.
