The map

About this Cham map poster

Cham sits on the northwestern shore of Lake Zug in central Switzerland. The lake takes up a large part of the map, and its smooth shoreline curves along the edge of the town. The river Lorze leaves the lake here and runs north through the built-up area. A strip of water crossing the streets gives the composition a second line of movement next to the coast.

Cham has a notable place in food industry history. In 1866 the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company was founded here, and it later merged with Nestlé. The industrial sites that grew up along the Lorze shaped parts of the town, and some former factory grounds have since been turned into new residential and mixed-use quarters. The map shows these larger plots as distinct blocks among the smaller streets.

On the lakefront, the parkland around the Villette and the grounds of St Andreas castle add open green space to the shoreline. Inland, residential areas spread toward farmland and the Reuss plain. A Cham map poster brings these elements together: open water, a river, a town and fields, all within a single, well-balanced frame.

01

Lake Zug shoreline

The lake fills much of the composition, and its gently curving northwestern shore gives the town a clear, elegant edge against a large area of open water.

02

Lorze outflow

The Lorze leaves Lake Zug at Cham and heads north. It draws a narrow line through the streets and past the town's former industrial sites.

03

Villette and St Andreas

Lakeside parkland around the Villette and the grounds of St Andreas castle form a green edge on the shore, breaking up the built-up area with paths and open space.
