The map

About this Chihuahua map poster

Chihuahua lies on a high plain in northern Mexico, and its map is set against dry, open land. The Chuvíscar River crosses the city in a narrow channel, often dry for much of the year, and the street pattern shifts around it. Low hills rise to the west and south, and wide ring roads encircle the growing outer districts.

The historic centre keeps a regular colonial grid, anchored by a Baroque cathedral. Miguel Hidalgo, leader of Mexico's independence movement, was executed here in 1811, and Pancho Villa's former home is now a museum of the Revolution. The city is also the starting point of the Chihuahua-Pacific railway through the Copper Canyon.

A Chihuahua map poster shows a city spreading across a desert basin, with the river line, the ring roads and the old grid clearly visible. Open land surrounds the urban area, giving the map room to breathe. It is a portrait of a northern capital shaped by space and distance.
