Valley corridor
The town stretches along the valley floor, with the main road acting as a spine that ties the whole street network together from one end to the other.

关于地图
Khalīfān Map Poster & Print
Khalīfān lies in the mountainous north-east of the Erbil Governorate, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. On a map, the setting shapes almost everything. The town is drawn out along a valley floor, with the main road running through it and side streets branching off where the terrain allows, rather than spreading into a regular grid.
The surrounding ridges keep the built area compact. Streets stop where the slopes steepen, and the edges of the town are irregular, following contours rather than property lines. Watercourses come down from the heights and join the valley, and the roads leading out of town bend to find the easiest line through the hills, which gives the map a strong sense of direction.
This is a place better described by its landscape than by landmarks, and a Khalīfān map poster stays true to that. It records a town built where the mountains leave space for one, with a single strong corridor of movement and a street network that grows outward only as far as the land permits.

Contour-shaped edges
Instead of a neat outline, the built area thins out along the slopes, leaving ragged edges that reflect the steep ground surrounding the town.
Roads through the hills
Routes leaving Khalīfān curve and wind as they follow the terrain, giving the edges of the map long, searching lines that lead into the mountains.
