The map
Cobly lies in the Atakora department of northwestern Benin, close to the border with Togo. From above, the town is a modest cluster of streets around its administrative and market centre, with dirt roads leaving in several directions. Beyond the centre, homesteads and fields spread across open savanna, so the map fades gradually from town into countryside.
This gradual edge is typical of northern Benin, where many families live in dispersed farm compounds rather than dense villages. On a Cobly map poster, that settlement pattern appears as a light scatter of paths and small clusters around the town. Seasonal streams trace faint lines across the surrounding land.
The Atakora is known for its hills and for the tata somba, the traditional fortified earthen houses built by communities in the region. Cobly is small and little documented outside Benin, so the map keeps to what can be seen: a market town in a wide rural landscape, drawn clearly and without embellishment.
The streets gather around the town's central area, where its administrative and market functions sit. Together they form the small, dense heart of the poster.
Unpaved roads and footpaths lead out to the surrounding villages and farms. They give the map a star-like pattern of thin lines on open ground.
Farm compounds are scattered across the savanna around the town. They create a light, irregular texture that reflects how people in this part of Benin live and farm.
