The map
Dalap-Uliga-Dorrit, often shortened to DUD, is the main urban area of Majuro Atoll, the capital of the Marshall Islands. It is formed from three former islets at the eastern end of the atoll that have grown together, and from above it appears as a thin, curving band of land only a few hundred metres wide.
A Dalap-Uliga-Dorrit map poster is defined by water on both sides. The lagoon lies to one side and the Pacific Ocean to the other, while a single main road runs along the length of the strip with short streets branching off it. Houses, government buildings, docks and shops are all packed into the narrow space in between.
Most of the country's government offices, commercial activity and population are concentrated here and along the road that follows the atoll's rim. The land rises only a few metres above sea level, which makes the Marshall Islands one of the places most discussed in conversations about rising seas and makes the precise outline of the islets especially meaningful.
The strip of land is bounded by the protected lagoon on one side and the open Pacific on the other, giving the map two long, contrasting shorelines.
A single main road follows the length of the islets, the spine of the urban area, with short side streets spreading out toward the water.
Dalap, Uliga and Delap-area Dorrit began as separate islets, and the map shows how they now form one continuous, gently curving urban ribbon.

Why Dalap-Uliga-Dorrit
An atoll map is unlike any city map, with land drawn as a slender line in a wide field of water. For Marshallese families and those who have lived on Majuro, it is a clear and personal portrait of home.
Set a title of your choice, a subtitle such as a name or a date, and the coordinates line. The poster is available in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
