Dāpoli lies in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, on the Konkan coast, set back slightly from the sea on higher ground. The map shows a town of winding streets that follow the terrain, with roads dropping west toward a chain of beaches and fishing villages along the Arabian Sea. Creeks and river mouths cut into the coastline, giving the shore a broken, intricate outline.
Its elevation gives Dāpoli a milder climate than much of the coast, and it has long been called the mini Mahabaleshwar of the Konkan. The town is home to the Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, the regional agricultural university, whose campus occupies a large area. Nearby beaches such as Murud, Harnai and Karde draw visitors, and Harnai is known for its fish market and sea fort.
