About this Dhrāngadhra map poster
Dhrāngadhra lies in northern Saurashtra in Gujarat, on flat, dry land not far from the edge of the Little Rann of Kutch. On a map the old town shows as a dense knot of irregular lanes, clearly set apart from the straighter roads and newer neighbourhoods that have grown around it. Outside the town, the land opens into wide, sparsely marked country with few features to interrupt it.
The town was the capital of a princely state ruled by the Jhala Rajput dynasty, and its palaces and institutions reflect that past. It later became known for soda ash and chemical production and for Dhrāngadhra stone, a sandstone used in buildings across the region. The nearby Little Rann is home to the Indian wild ass sanctuary.
