The map

About this Dundalk map poster

Dundalk is the county town of Louth, roughly halfway between Dublin and Belfast. It lies at the head of Dundalk Bay, where the Castletown River meets the sea. On a map, the town centre gathers close to the river and harbour, while newer estates spread out over the flat land beyond.

To the north, the Cooley Peninsula rises into hills and mountains. This landscape is closely tied to the old Irish sagas of Cú Chulainn, who is associated with the Dundalk area. The main road and railway between Dublin and Belfast pass through the town, which has long been important as a crossing point in the northeast of Ireland.

A Dundalk map poster shows a town between the sea and the hills. The open bay, the estuary of the river and the tight streets of the centre create a composition that is balanced and easy to read. It suits anyone who has lived in Louth or who knows Dundalk as the stopping point between Ireland's two main cities.

01

Dundalk Bay

The wide, shallow bay opens out to the east of town. On the print it forms a large area of calm, open space beside the streets.

02

Castletown River

The river runs through the town to the harbour and the bay. Its estuary gives the map a clear natural line near the centre.

03

Dublin–Belfast route

The main road and railway link Dundalk with both cities. They form long lines through the town, showing its role as a crossing point.

Why Dundalk

A map that means something

Dundalk is home for many families in the northeast, and many who left still speak of the bay and the Cooley hills. A map of the town is a simple way to keep that place close. It works well in a hallway or a sitting room.

Write your own title and subtitle, perhaps a family name or a year, and edit the coordinates line. Pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries, with an optional wooden frame.
