Oasis edge
The cultivated area has a clear boundary where irrigation ends, and beyond it the map turns almost blank, a striking contrast between farmland and desert.

Arix Map Poster & Print
Arix lies in the Hotan region of southern Xinjiang, in the band of oases that runs along the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert. To the south rise the Kunlun Mountains, whose snowmelt feeds the rivers that make farming possible, and to the north the sand begins. On a map, the settlement is a patch of order within a much larger emptiness.
Irrigation shapes almost everything. Canals and ditches divide the land into regular fields, and roads, often lined with rows of trees, follow the same straight lines. Homes are spread along these routes rather than gathered tightly. As a result the map shows a lattice of lanes and water channels in which the built area and the farmland are closely interwoven.
The Arix map poster turns this oasis geometry into a clean graphic image. Straight canals, right-angled lanes and field boundaries form a quiet grid. The edges of the cultivated area mark the point where the water runs out and the desert takes over. It is a precise picture of how people make a place in one of the driest regions of Asia.

Canal lattice
Irrigation channels and field ditches run in straight lines across the oasis, creating a regular pattern that reads like a finely ruled grid.
Roads along the fields
Rural lanes follow the same orientation as the canals, and homes line them in long rows instead of clustering in a dense centre.
