Belen Map Poster & Print

Belen sits high in the Nur Mountains of Hatay, between the Gulf of İskenderun and the Amik plain around Antakya. The town grew around the Belen Pass, known in antiquity as the Syrian Gates. For centuries this was one of the main routes between Anatolia and the Levant.

Because of this location, the town is shaped by gradients rather than a grid. Streets follow contour lines, switch back on themselves and step up the slopes in short turns. The main road through the pass cuts a long, deliberate line through the settlement, bending as it climbs and descends on each side.

A Belen map poster shows how a place is shaped by terrain. The road pattern is irregular and dense where the slope allows it, then thins quickly where the mountain takes over. There is no river or coast in the frame. The ground itself sets the shape.

01

The Belen Pass

The historic route over the Nur Mountains runs through the town. On the map it is the clearest line, curving between the coastal side and the inland plain.

02

Contour streets

Residential lanes follow the slope instead of crossing it. This creates curved, stacked lines that show the shape of the hillside without drawing any elevation.

03

Mountain edges

Built-up areas stop sharply where the slopes get steeper. This leaves the town as a dense cluster surrounded by blank mountain land.
