The two hills
The land rises east of Tel Aviv, and the city's name refers to its hills. The change is subtle on the map, but it explains why many streets bend and step instead of running in straight lines.

El mapa
Givatayim occupies a small, tightly built area on the rise just east of Tel Aviv. From above there is no gap between it and its neighbours. Its streets run straight into Tel Aviv on one side and Ramat Gan to the north and east, so the city is defined by its grid of apartment blocks and small parks rather than by any natural edge. The ground climbs gently eastward, and the name itself means two hills.
The city grew from workers' neighbourhoods founded in the 1920s by pioneers who wanted a quieter place to live beyond the new Tel Aviv. Those early districts later merged into a single municipality, and their separate cores can still be traced in the layout. Today it is one of the most densely populated cities in Israel. It is largely residential and known for its green, walkable streets.
A Givatayim map poster makes sense of that density. At poster scale the blocks become a fine, even weave, the main avenues carry the eye toward Tel Aviv, and the small green spaces appear as deliberate pauses. It is a map for people who know the city street by street, and for anyone drawn to a place defined almost entirely by where people live.
The land rises east of Tel Aviv, and the city's name refers to its hills. The change is subtle on the map, but it explains why many streets bend and step instead of running in straight lines.
Givatayim's streets run straight on into Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan, so the poster shows one unbroken urban fabric. Only the title tells you where the city begins.
The city formed from several separate settlements founded in the 1920s. Their original centres still show in the street pattern as small clusters, stitched together by later streets.

Por qué Givatayim
People tend to describe Givatayim as home rather than as a destination, which is exactly why a map of it works so well on a wall. It records the streets of a childhood, a first apartment or a family that has lived on the same hill for generations.
