Lake Tama
The reservoir on the city's northern boundary forms a large, smooth void in the map, its uneven shoreline tracing the valleys of the hills that were flooded to create it.

El mapa
Higashiyamato sits in the Tama area of western Tokyo, and from above it reads as a tight weave of residential lanes, small blocks and rail corridors. The pattern is typical of the city's outer suburbs: few straight avenues, many short streets bending around older plot lines, and houses packed close enough that the road network becomes the main texture of the drawing.
The northern edge changes character completely. There the streets give way to Lake Tama, a reservoir built to supply Tokyo with water, and to the forested slopes of the Sayama Hills. On paper this shows as a broad, quiet shape with irregular shorelines and almost no lines inside it, a strong contrast to the fine mesh of the town below.
A Higashiyamato map poster captures that balance between suburb and open water. Rail lines cut diagonally through the grid, and the northern terminus of the Tama Monorail adds another thread to the composition. It is a modest place on the scale of Tokyo, but its outline, pressed against the lake and hills, gives it a recognisable profile.
The reservoir on the city's northern boundary forms a large, smooth void in the map, its uneven shoreline tracing the valleys of the hills that were flooded to create it.
Wooded slopes frame the reservoir and appear on the poster as an area of sparse paths and winding tracks, a soft green edge to an otherwise densely built city.
South of the lake, narrow residential streets form an intricate, irregular network typical of western Tokyo, giving the lower half of the print its fine, busy texture.

Por qué Higashiyamato
People who grew up in Higashiyamato, or commuted from it into central Tokyo, often want something that marks the place without being a tourist image. A street map does that quietly: the lake, the rail lines and the neighbourhood lanes they walked every day, drawn in clean black lines.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or the year you moved there, and choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It works equally well as a digital file or a printed poster.
