The airfield runway
Gifu Air Base cuts a long, clean rectangle through the centre of the city. It is the most striking geometric shape on the map, and the streets on either side bend around it.

El mapa
Kakamigahara stretches east to west across the flat land of southern Gifu Prefecture. Its southern boundary follows the Kiso River, which separates Gifu from Aichi and appears on the map as a wide, braided band of water and gravel bars. North of the river, residential streets, factory lots and fields fill a plain that rises only gently towards the hills along the city’s northern edge.
The city is closely linked to Japanese aviation. Gifu Air Base sits in the middle of the urban area, its runway a long straight bar that stands out clearly from the finer street pattern around it, and the Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum next to the base tells the story of the region’s aircraft industry. Aerospace manufacturing is still an important local employer.
A Kakamigahara map poster works on contrast. The rigid geometry of the airfield sits between curving residential lanes, while the Kiso River runs along the bottom of the frame with a looser, organic line. Railway lines run parallel across the plain towards Gifu city in the west and Inuyama in the south-east, dividing the composition into long horizontal strips.
Gifu Air Base cuts a long, clean rectangle through the centre of the city. It is the most striking geometric shape on the map, and the streets on either side bend around it.
The broad Kiso River marks the southern edge of the city and the prefectural border. Its channels and sandbars give the lower part of the poster a soft, shifting texture.
Railway lines cross the plain east to west in nearly straight lines. They act as horizontal rules that organise the dense residential blocks between the river and the northern hills.

Por qué Kakamigahara
This is a map for people with a connection to the place: residents, families of people who work in its aircraft plants, or anyone who has walked the riverbanks at cherry-blossom time. The airfield gives it a graphic quality you rarely find in a city map.
Add a personal title, a subtitle such as a neighbourhood name, and a coordinates line, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the city’s engineering side particularly well.
