El mapa
Kolbermoor lies in the Rosenheim district of Upper Bavaria, just west of Rosenheim, where the Mangfall River crosses the broad basin before joining the Inn. The name recalls the moorland that once covered much of the area, where peat was cut before industry arrived. On a map the town is a mostly flat, orderly spread of streets organised around the river.
Kolbermoor grew as an industrial settlement in the nineteenth century, when a large cotton spinning mill was built by the Mangfall to use its water power. The former mill site, since redeveloped, remains a distinct block on the map. Many of the surrounding streets date from the workers' housing and later expansion, which gives the town a planned, regular character.
A Kolbermoor map poster shows a town shaped by water and work. The Mangfall and its channels run through it, and a rail line links it to Rosenheim, while suburban streets stretch out into farmland and what remains of the moor. The Alps can be seen to the south on clear days, and many people are glad to call the town home.
The river flows through the town on its way to the Inn, a natural line that anchors the map and once powered the local mill.
The large site of the old cotton spinning works stands out as a distinct block by the river, a reminder of the town's industrial origins.
Beyond the built area, open land and remnants of the old moor surround the town, showing where its name and first economy came from.
