El mapa
K’olīto, also known as Halaba Kulito, is a town in south-central Ethiopia and the administrative centre of the Halaba area. It sits in the Rift Valley region, on fairly level ground where the countryside is mostly farmland. The town serves as a market and service centre for the surrounding rural communities.
On a map, K’olīto looks like many growing Ethiopian towns: a main road running through, a core of streets laid out in a loose grid on either side, and newer blocks spreading outward in less regular patterns. Because the ground is gentle, the layout depends on roads and plots rather than on hills or rivers.
The edges of the town are where the drawing becomes most interesting. Streets stop partway, tracks lead out into the fields, and the neat grid breaks up into scattered lines. A K’olīto map poster captures this moment of growth, a town still taking shape, and it looks calm and spare in black and white.
A main road passes through the town and organises the whole layout, with the densest blocks gathered along it and side streets branching off at regular intervals.
Away from the spine, streets form a simple grid that grows less regular towards the edges, a pattern that is typical of Ethiopian regional towns expanding over flat land.
Farmland surrounds the town, so the street pattern ends in open space on all sides, which leaves a lot of calm negative space in the framing.

Por qué K’olīto
A map of K’olīto makes a personal gift for someone who grew up in Halaba or who has family there and now lives far away. It shows the town plainly, street by street, without relying on a picture of any single building.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to write the name in another script or add a family date, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital files include six print sizes, or you can order a printed poster.
