El mapa

Pul-e Khumrī Map Poster & Print

Pul-e Khumrī is the capital of Baghlan Province in northern Afghanistan. It lies in the valley of the Kunduz river, and its name refers to a bridge. On the map the city is long and narrow, following the river and the highway that runs north from the Salang Pass towards the northern plains.

The valley is hemmed in by dry, rugged hills, so the city grows along its length rather than its width. Residential districts, markets and older industrial sites line the road, and irrigated fields follow the river. Nearby is Surkh Kotal, an archaeological site from the Kushan era.

A Pul-e Khumrī map poster shows a city shaped entirely by its valley: river, road and settlement all running in the same direction. The linear composition is clear and strong, with the edges of the hills framing it on both sides.

Kunduz river

The river runs the length of the valley and forms the natural spine of the city. Irrigated land lines its banks.

02

North–south highway

The main road from the Salang Pass towards the north runs through the city. It is the axis that most development follows.

03

Valley edges

Dry, rugged hills close in on either side. They confine the city to a long, narrow band along the valley floor.
