Singa, the capital of Sennar State in central Sudan, lies on the western bank of the Blue Nile. The river is the defining feature of the map, flowing in a broad channel along the edge of the town. Beyond it, flat plains stretch out in every direction, largely given to agriculture.
The town's street pattern is mostly regular, with straight avenues and rectangular blocks on the level ground. The centre sits close to the river, where markets and administrative buildings are concentrated, while residential districts spread further inland in wider, more open grids.
