Hamlet roads
Streets that once connected separate hamlets still wind across the city. They give Tilburg a branching pattern, unlike the concentric plans of many Dutch towns.

El mapa
Tilburg did not grow from a single walled centre. It developed from a cluster of hamlets on the heaths of North Brabant, linked by roads that gradually filled with houses and textile workshops. That history still shows from above. Long, winding streets run between former village centres, and the pattern is looser and more branching than in most Dutch cities of its size.
Wool processing made Tilburg an industrial centre in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The former mills, now museums, homes and cultural spaces, are still part of the city. The railway runs east to west across the middle, with the redeveloped Spoorzone beside the station. The Wilhelmina Canal passes to the southeast, and the Piushaven branch brings water into the city itself.
A ring road circles the inner city, and Tilburg University's wooded campus lies on the western side. In July the city hosts one of the largest funfairs in the Netherlands. A Tilburg map poster reduces the fair and the old mills to lines: the ring road, the railway, the canal harbour and the branching streets of a city built from many small beginnings.
Streets that once connected separate hamlets still wind across the city. They give Tilburg a branching pattern, unlike the concentric plans of many Dutch towns.
A canal harbour branches off the Wilhelmina Canal into the southeastern districts. Its quays are now lined with cafés, and it shows clearly on the map as a slender arm of water.
The former railway workshops beside the station have become a new district. On the map it is a large block of open space and converted halls along the tracks.

Por qué Tilburg
Students who spent years at the university, people who work in the city's logistics and creative sectors, and families rooted in the old textile neighbourhoods each have their own Tilburg. A map lets each of them point to the streets that mattered.
Add a title, perhaps the name of your wijk, a subtitle and a date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9, or order a matte poster with an optional wooden frame.
