Yasuj is the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in southwestern Iran, set at high altitude in the Zagros Mountains. The city lies in a valley near the Dena range, one of the highest parts of the Zagros. Rising ground frames its map on several sides.
Yasuj is a relatively young city, so its street network is made up of broad main roads and newer residential districts rather than a dense historic core. The Beshar River flows nearby, and belts of greenery and orchards follow the water. Where the valley narrows, roads bend with the land, giving parts of the map a more natural shape than its central avenues.
