The map
Ez Zahra is a suburb on the southern shore of the Gulf of Tunis, in Ben Arous Governorate, between Radès and Hammam Lif. From above, it is a band of residential streets pressed between the sea and the main transport lines. The suburban railway to the south runs through it, and the shoreline is almost straight.
The map is organised by these parallel lines. First comes the coast, then a strip of seaside streets, then the rail corridor, then more housing that reaches inland. Short streets link the layers at right angles, forming a ladder-like pattern down to the beach. It is typical of the southern suburbs, which grew up along the railway and the gulf.
An Ez Zahra map poster captures that clean structure: sea on one side, rails through the middle, and a regular web of blocks in between. In monochrome, the smooth coastline contrasts with the finely divided streets. For many families in Tunis, the town is linked to summer days by the water.

The suburban line from Tunis runs through town parallel to the coast, and it cuts a firm straight line across the residential grid.
Short cross streets link the inland neighbourhoods with the seafront, creating a ladder of blocks that step down toward the sand.

Why Ez Zahra
The map suits anyone who lived near the gulf, spent summers by this beach or took the southern line from Tunis. With the sea, the rail line and the streets in between, it makes a calm, orderly picture.
