About this Ferguson map poster
Ferguson is a city in north St. Louis County, Missouri, a short distance from Lambert airport and about twenty minutes from downtown St. Louis. It began as a railroad town in the nineteenth century, named after William B. Ferguson, who gave land for a station. The rail line still crosses the city and remains a clear feature of its map.
Its layout is typical of older American suburbs: a historic downtown along South Florissant Road, residential grids of tree-lined streets, and long commercial avenues such as West Florissant. Parks and creek valleys break up the pattern. In 2014 Ferguson became known worldwide after the death of Michael Brown and the protests that followed.
