La carte
Belawan Map Poster & Print
Belawan lies on the northeast coast of Sumatra, at the mouth of the Deli River where it meets the Strait of Malacca. From above, the map is shaped by water: river channels, tidal creeks and mangrove coast surround a strip of land that holds docks, warehouses, rail tracks and dense neighbourhoods.
Belawan is the main seaport for Medan, the largest city on Sumatra, and a toll road and railway link the two. Container terminals, piers and breakwaters create strong geometric lines along the waterfront, in contrast to the irregular shoreline and channels around them.
Behind the port, residential districts and fishing settlements crowd close to the water, some built on stilts over tidal land. A Belawan map poster shows a place where industry and mangrove meet, one of the most important gateways in western Indonesia.
